Although to children Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is just an enjoyable and simple song, it is actually highly beneficial from a developmental point of view. By memorising the words and singing along, children are developing their language, communication and listening skills, which are key to early literacy. The use of actions, which allows the children to stretch their arms, wiggle their fingers like a star and form a diamond, help to develop coordination as well as encouraging them to explore the world around them. These basic actions also provide an introduction to mathematical shapes as well as enabling the development of early handwriting, through the use of fine motor skills.
